First. Post. What Exactly Am I Doing?

Hello world! Or at least, the small portion of the world that will actually catch a glimpse of this post. Welcome, whoever you are. Somehow, amongst all your web surfing you managed to find the tiny space that my blog takes up on the world wide web. Now, perhaps you're wondering what this blog is going to be about... Me too!

I've never really done a blog before, but recently I've been hearing more and more about people who have, so I figured I'd create my own. Sounds like fun. I like to write. I like the internet. And I like music.. So I figured this would be a great place on the internet to write about music! Perhaps in the future I'll post about other topics that interest me as well..

Well, for this first post, I figured I'd give you a glimpse at the tuneage I listen to. Starting off, I'll list five bands/artists that I've been listening to lately. Keep in mind that these are not necessarily my favorite bands, they're just bands that have captured my attention lately.

1) The Grateful Dead
2) Sonic Youth
3) Hey Rosetta!
4) Death Cab for Cutie
5) InnerPartySystem

Last night, at Borders I picked up a copy of American Beauty by the Grateful Dead. Prior to that purchase, I had only listened to a few of the Dead's most popular tracks (Uncle John's Band, Truckin', Friend of the Devil) but boy does this album have some gems! All of the songs are incredible, and I would highly suggest the CD to anyone with an interest in rock, alternative, folk, or country. Even if this isn't your typical musical fare, certainly anyone who plays guitar can appreciate the talent of Jerry Garcia. So yeah, grab a copy at your music store of choice, or download a couple tracks off iTunes, I'm fairly certain you won't be disappointed.

I'm not going to write out a full review for the rest of the artists on my list, (at least not at this time) but I would urge you to check some of them out if you never have. Sonic Youth is indie rock in it's purest, grittiest form. Hey Rosetta! is a band founded in Northern Canada that recently came under my radar. With a cellist and violist, they've got quite a unique sound. If you've never listed to anything by Death Cab.. go out and do that RIGHT NOW. Stop reading this. Open up iTunes. And type in Death Cab for Cutie. Alright, back? Now wasn't that amazing? If your answer is anything but 'yes', I'm not quite sure what to think of you. InnerPartySystem is for you techno lovers out there. Although, unlike other electronic bands that tend to feature the same beats over and over again, and have quite an addiction to looping, InnerPartySystem breaks that mold and produces some of the most original and creative electronica I've heard in quite some time.

It looks like I've come to the end of my first post. Perhaps you learned a little bit from reading this, and perhaps I introduced you to some music you wouldn't have otherwise been exposed to. Well, whatever the outcome, I hope you check back soon!
